You gotta love it. David and all the people who have worked on our wonderful home are professionals. They value their work and are artisans…from the grader to the finish trim gal.
Now, as we are nearing completion, I wanted to have a hand in something…something I could say “I did that”. It was a dilemma (checked the dictionary on that one – a situation requiring a choice between equally undesirable alternatives) for all involved. How do we let Bonnie do something that requires manual labor?
Well, today they turned me loose with hammer, drill, screw gun, stain, and a sander. If that’s not scary enough, they didn’t watch. I got to install hickory flooring (in the back of the closet) and stain and sand (and stain again) the flooring …but only where the cabinets will be installed. Alas, my fine workmanship (well, maybe I’m overstating that a little) will only be seen in case of a total kitchen remodel (unlikely) or if someone cleans out the closet (again, highly unlikely).
However, I’m as proud of our new/old home as if I’d personally dug the footers, poured concrete, cut the timber frame…you get the idea.
We are close, very close.
